Bulgaria and Latvia won their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Romania and Liechtenstein respectively, on Saturday.

Bulgaria kept their qualification hopes alive with a narrow 1-0 victory over Group G leaders, Romania, in Sofia.

Velizar Dimitrov headed home off a left-wing cross from Manchester City’s Martin Petrov in the sixth minute and that proved the winner. Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov missed a chance late in the second half.

In a game of academic interest in Group F, there was pride at stake as Latvia entertained bottom-placed Liechtenstein in Riga.

An own goal by Zirnis handed a shock lead to the visitors but the home side equalised a minute later through G Karlsons, which led to the opening of the floodgates. Verpakovskis (30), Laizans (63) and Visnakovs (87) completed a comprehensive victory for the hosts.
