Sweden beat Latvia 2-1 in the Group F qualifier and booked their place in next summer’s finals to be held in Austria and Switzerland. Turkey also made it to the Euro 2008 finals by beating Bosnia 1-0 in Istanbul from Group C. Nihat Kahveci scored the winner. In Solna, Marcus Allback gave the home side the perfect start by scoring in the first minute from a cross sent by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Latvia scored the equaliser in the 26th minute when Jurijs Laizans found the target with Maris Verpakovskis’ deflection taking the ball past Andreas Isaksson. Kim Kallstrom scored the winner in the 57th minute off Freddie Ljungberg’s pass. In other Group F games, Denmark beat Iceland 3-0 in Copenhagen. Bendtner, Tomasson and Kahlenberg scored; Spain edged past Northern Ireland 1-0 as Xavi scored in the 52nd minute. Sweden and Turkey have joined Poland, Italy, France, Greece, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain, Romania, the Netherlands and co-hosts Austria and Switzerland. |
